Library Corner

Every other week we go to the library and fill our big library bag with as many books as can fit. There's no rhyme or reason to what books we pick, we just make sure to grab some that look relatively age appropriate. Enjoy our reviews of our favorites from each trip!

What the Ladybug HeardWhat the Ladybug Heard by Julia Donaldson - Farm books are always a hit in this house.  In this version, a ladybug helps the other animals foil a plot to steal the prize cow.  It was a fun read and the illustrations were adorable.

I Wanna IguanaI Wanna Iguana by Karen Kaufman Orloff - A cute book about a little boy trying to talk his mom into letting him get an iguana.  It is written as a series of notes back and forth between the mom and son.  I think this might have been a little advanced for M since she isn't quite at the stage of bargaining for things, but it was a fun read for me!

Laura Numeroff's 10-Step Guide to Living with Your Monster10-Step Guide to Living with Your Monster by Laura Numeroff - Written as a how-to guide similar to one you would expect to read for a dog or cat.  Vibrant pictures and simple and direct writing made this a favorite of M's.

How Do Dinosaurs Play With Their FriendsHow Do Dinosaurs Play with Their Friends? by Jane Yolen - We love these dinosaur books.  They are so cute and have great messages.  And of course, since M loves dinosaurs, they really make learning about manners fun!  This one teaches kids how to share and be selfless with their friends; always a relevant message for a 2 year old!

Who Hops?Who Hops? by Katie Davis - We only read this to M a couple of times before she was able to "read" it all by herself.  We love books with simple patterns like these, because they give M the confidence to recite the book from memory, a great pre-reading skill!

Some other library books we enjoyed this week:

  1. We've read several of Numeroff's books but this is the first I've heard of 10-Step Guide to Living with Your Monster. Sounds fun.

  2. We love the "How do dinosaurs" series. I also found a DVD that has them from the Scholastic Series at our library. My son really likes monsters too so we'll have to see if our library has the 10-step guide :o)

  3. Thanks for joining WMCIR! I also didn't know about 10 Steps book, it sounds like fun. Who Hops was one of Anna's favorite too when she was 3.

  4. We'll have to try What the Ladybug heard. Illustrations are important at this age! We love the dinosaur books but the other day I was reading, "How do dinosaurs play with their friends?" I would say the part about do dinosaurs refuse to share and Logan would say, "yes, yes, they don't share!" umm, maybe we need to work on some comprehension!! lol
