Library Corner - Pink & Princess Books
A few weeks ago we did a Pink Princess Theme for M's birthday, but most of the books we wanted at the library had already been checked out. They finally came in and M has been reading them nonstop for the past couple of weeks!

Not all Princesses Dress in Pink
by Jane Yolen & Heidi Stemple - What a fantastic book! It is great to have a princess book that shows them being REAL girls and having fun despite their sparkly crowns. This is a MUST read for any little girl that loves princesses!

Pink Me Up
by Charise Mericle Harper - I think this was my second favorite book of the bunch. Excited for a Pink Girls Picnic, a little girl is quite dismayed to hear that her mommy is sick and her daddy is taking her instead. Do boys wear pink? I LOVE this book and how the daddy steps up to the challenge of taking his little girl to an all pink event.

Ponyella
by Laura Numeroff and Nate Evans - A twist on Cinderella, a pony is sold to a new mean owner who already has two very mean horses. Complete with a Fairy Godmare and a happy ending, this was a book M and I both enjoyed!

Pinkalicious
by Victoria & Elizabeth Kann - I think this is the first time I have ever written a completely negative review. Do NOT read this book to your little girl. It is awful! The little girl tantrums and acts like a brat the entire time, and ends up turning pink from eating too many cupcakes. She is told she must eat green healthy things in order to return to normal but as she does so, talks about how disgusting everything is. The moral is to obey your parents, but it is such a tiny part of the book that it is completely overshadowed by her bad behavior and negative attitude towards healthy food. It is definitely not worth reading to an impressionable three year old!

Library Corner - Valentine's Day
Here's a list of the fun Valentine's Day books that we read the last couple of weeks. We kind of got the library leftovers; I've discovered that the Preschool teachers around town check out all of the relevant books well in advance (like 3 weeks) of the holiday itself. If I don't remember a month ahead of time to check books out, I don't have many options!

If You'll Be My Valentine by Cynthia Rylant - We didn't celebrate Valentine's Day last year (it's never been a big holiday for us since it used to be the week after our "dating" anniversary.). Since M had never heard of the holiday before, this was the perfect book to introduce her to the concept of writing Valentines and showing the people that you love a little extra attention.

Mousie Love by Dori Chaconas - A cute little book about the courtship of two kitchen mice. I loved how simple and sweet the story was, and how true to character the male mouse was in his nervous overcompensation!
I Love You, Sleepyhead
by Claire Freedman - I wanted to make sure to include a book about the love between a mommy and her babies. This was a cute little book about various animal mommies getting their babies ready for bed.

The Valentine Bears by Eve Bunting - A cute story about a bear who wakes up from hibernation a few weeks early to surprise her husband for Valentine's Day. Little does she know that there is a surprise for her as well!

Saint Valentine
by Ann Tompert - A non-fiction about who Saint Valentine really was and why we celebrate Valentine's Day. This book was a little bit advanced for M, but next year or the year after it will be perfect. It is so hard to find a simple, non-fiction picture book!

Library Corner - Religious Christmas Books
Christmas is officially over today as we celebrate the feast of the Baptism of Our Lord. We've really enjoyed being able to spend the extra time focusing on Jesus' birth, especially reading all these great religious Christmas stories!

Room for a Little One: A Christmas Tale
by Martin Waddell - I love this book. The illustrations are beautiful, the text is simple, and the message of peace and love is perfect. This is a great book to help introduce little ones to the message of Jesus.

Little Star
by Anthony DeStefano - I was sent this book by the author and asked to review it. At first I was worried that it would be a little too advanced for M's age, but she was completely captivated by the story. It tells the story of a little star who gives his whole self to shine for the baby Jesus, even after all the other stars decided that Jesus was not important enough to shine for. I knew this was a winner for our family when M said "That was a good book!" I'm so happy we are able to add this to our Christmas book collection!

B is for Bethlehem: A Christmas Alphabet
by Isabel Wilner - A nice little alphabet book with each letter referring to a different part of the Christmas Story. The illustrations are great as well. I think this is the perfect addition to our library and have already added it to our Amazon wish list!

Small Camel Follows the Star
by Rachel Brown - This was the perfect book to read on Epiphany. I love that the smallest camel was given the most important job of carrying the gifts for Jesus, just as Jesus, who gave us the greatest gift of all, was born as a child of the poor.
